The Anato-Bee will test high school student’s knowledge in anatomy, embryology, histology, and diagnostic skills through a spelling-bee inspired format. Top placing students at each regional competition will be awarded scholarships to attend a summer program of their choice that focuses on the anatomical and/or clinical sciences.
Anato-Bee will send local host coordinators the virtual exam information via email on Saturday, February 24, 2024. Coordinators will communicate this information to their participants via Zoom. Participants will take a written exam consisting of 100 multiple-choice questions (MCQ’s) based on the learning objectives for anatomy, histology and embryology that are published on this website. Followed by a 50 MCQ image-based practical portion requiring identification of anatomical structures on cadaveric photographs and microscopic structures on histology photomicrographs. Participants will use a Zoom login and must have an adult “proctor” visible in the room, with the microphone and computer camera turned on. The Anato-Bee Team will inform each local institution of their top student or students who will be invited to progress to the regional competition.
The top three student or students of each local competition will move on to their designated regional competition to be held in April 2024. Students progressing to the regional competition will be given an opportunity to apply for a travel stipend to assist with associated costs for transportation, lodging, and food. The students applying for this stipend must demonstrate a need for funding to the regional competition and be considered a student of an underrepresented and/or underprivileged population.
